German-American Volksfest 2010 in Hohenfels, Bavaria

German-American Volksfest, a festival held every year in Hohenfels U.S. Base is finally over last Sunday May 2, 2010. It was a five-day family friendly festival which I believed to be another success. We went to the festival twice, last May 1 and 2. I can’t believed that despite the rainy and cold weather last weekend, there were still a lot of people who witnessed the said festival. Last Saturday, we stayed almost midnight to witness the fireworks which was held at around 10:30 PM. It lasted for around 20 minutes. I believed this is one of the highlights of the festival. We went back again last Sunday to see the Military vehicles which are also on show to the public for free near the airfield. It was quite another interesting festival between the Germans and the Americans.

Here are some of the images I took from the said festival.

a dandelion-like firework..very interesting! we enjoyed watching it.

these are some of the rides at the festival. Sad to day, there was no Ferris wheel this year. This is my favorite ride. You can also see tables and benches around where people can sit and eat or simply relax after a walk around the place.

One of the highlights I guess especially for the music lovers and beer drinkers is the Festzelt or the marquee. It is hard to find a sit inside if you are coming a bit late. I don’t get surprised anymore when it was almost full because it was also raining outside. HB had fun listening to his favorite country music while drinking his Radler, a 50-50 combination of beer and limonade.
