The Beautiful Church of Mariahilf in Freystadt, Upper Palatinate, Bavaria

Today is the celebration of Pfingstsonntag or Pentecost Sunday. We had a chance to go sightseeing in some small towns and villages in Upper Palatinate in Bavaria, Germany. One of the sights we visited was the Wallfahrtskirche Mariahilf which might be called in English as the Pilgrimage Church of Our Lady of Help. It is located in Freystadt.

Freystadt is a town in the district of Neumarkt in Bavaria, Germany. It is situated near the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal, 14 km southwest of Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz, and 33 km southeast of Nuremberg. This beautiful church is also called Freystadt’s Baroque Heaven or the Upper Palatinates Baroque Gem. I was truly amazed as we went inside of it and saw the marvelous architecture and the amazing frescos on its ceiling. It was truly breathtaking! No wonder the frescos were painted by the famous German painter Hans Georg Asam (+1711) with his famous sons Egid Quirin (+1750) and Cosmas Damian (+1739). The church was built by architect named Giovanni Antonio Viscardi (+1713) in 1700-10. What a historical fact indeed.

Just watch these marvelous pictures we took during our sightseeing today. Thanks to hubby for taking pictures of me once again. We also visited nearby towns like Berching, Wissing, old city in Freystadt and some other more. What a wonderful day today especially in seeing this amazing architecture of the church.
