Volksfest in Neumarkt, Bavaria

The Jura-Volksfest, also called as Neumarkter Volksfest is an annual festival held in the month of August in Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz or Upper Palatinate in Bavaria, Germany. It is so far the biggest festival held in this city. It has become a part of culture and tradition which started since 1829. This 11-day festival attracts around 200,000 guests and visitors every year. The highlight of the program is the so-called Festzug or parade held during the first Sunday of celebration. There are a lot activities to be experienced both for children and olds.

At the Festplatz (festival square) located near the Jurahalle, you can experience different rides like Ferris, wheel, freefall, merry go round, carousel and a lot more. There are stalls and kiosks that also sell food, goods, candies, souvenirs and many more. This year’s celebration will take place on August 12-22, 2011.

Here are some images taken during our visit last August 2010.
