Weekend Trip To Berlin

The dream of going to Berlin will be finally true very soon. I had been to the different capital cities in Europe but never been in Berlin, the capital city of Germany. This seems to be a last minute trip and I am glad that I found a cheap one. It is a 3-day bus trip which include cheap accommodation. I am happy that I will soon visit and see this place.

We will be leaving tomorrow and will be backed on Sunday evening. I already contacted some friends to meet me in Berlin.

More about Berlin, it is one of the sixteen states of Germany and also the largest city in terms of area size. It is also a world city in terms of culture, politics, science and media. It is considered to be one of the most visited cities in Europe.

The Berliner Dom or Cathedral is Berlin’s largest church. It is a Protestant cathedral. Credit to my friend Marvin C. who lives in this city for this image. Thanks in advance also for touring me in this city on Saturday.

Here are some of the top sights I wish to visit in Berlin;

Brandenburger Tor

It is called in English as Brandenburg Gate, an iconic landmark not only in Berlin but in Germany as a whole. It was constructed between 1788-1791.

Reichstag

This is a government district where the German Parliament is located. It has a magnificent pillared entrance. I wish to go up on its glass cupola to have a wonderful view of the city. I am not sure if tourists are allowed to go-up after an incident I heard last time over the radio. Somebody jumped down from the glass cupola which resulted to his death. Such a tragedy.

Alexanderplatz

It is known in English as Alexander Square. This is where you can see the 365-meter high Fersehturm or television tower and a lot of modern functional buildings.

Potsdamerplatz or Potsdam Square

This square was once the center of traffic in Berlin. To the west of this square is the Kulturforum (Culture Forum) which houses the Gemaeldegalerie (Picture or Painting Gallery) that houses over a thousand of paintings from all eras of art history.

I hope we still have enought time to visit other sights like the Bellevue Palace which is the residence of the president of Germany and Charlottenburg Palace, the largest surviving historical palace in Berlin after it was restored. Other sights that are worthy to visit are also the Museuminsel, KedeWe Centrum, Humboldt University, St. Hedwig’s Cathedral and a lot more.

More images to come when I am back from my trip. I am quite excited!
