Grocery Shopping in Germany

Good morning Deutschland! It is another sunny day in Germany. I am just sharing a few shopping tips today. I am always confronted with questions by some American friends especially those who are new in our area. One asked me last week why credit cards are not accepted when they go shopping in discounter market or discount grocery stores like Netto, Aldi, Penny and Norma. I told them that it is their rule besides most Germans use cash or debit cards when paying for their shopped items. Most Germans don’t really used credit cards like in the U.S.

If you go to department stores in the cities or big supermarkets like Globus, they usually accept credit cards. Some friends are happy to use their credit cards when they go shopping in Germany, just like the other week as we went to Globus supermarket in Schwandorf. I also shopped for some grocery items but cannot find OxyElite Pro in this supermarket. Sometimes they have good deals in this store and you can find cheap items too. That is also the reason why some friends keep on coming back there.

One thing I am not so sure of, if non-German debit cards are also accepted in these discount grocery stores like Aldi, Netto, Penny and Norma. As far as I can remember, they only accept German debit cards. You can try it but be sure to have cash with you. Enjoy shopping in Germany!
