Places To See and Villas To Stay in Greece

It is time to travel and visit new places again. I would love to share my thoughts about Greece this time. I haven”t visited that country yet but I’ve heard from a friend that it is one of the most interesting countries to visit in Europe. She told me so many interesting stories and gave me so many tips and advice about her travel to Greece earlier this year that really makes me think that I should plan a visit soon. She even told me about places to find some nice and affordable villas in Greece to stay. Thanks a lot for all the information but at this stage I would need to start saving up some money.

Greece is a country full of history. It is located in Southern Europe, on the southernmost tip of the Balkan peninsula. Because I am confident I will manage to visit the country in the coming summer I have already started researching the most interesting cities and places of interest to visit.

Thanks to my friend Ritz for this image of Parthenon. This was taken during her vacation in Greece early this year.

Here are the top 3 destinations in my wish list:

Athens
I had seen a lot of images from my friend from her stay in Athens. For me, visiting Greece without seeing its capital city is out of the question. There are already a lot of interesting sights to see there. Every time I think of its famous landmark, the Parthenon, I already imagine seeing the whole of Greece. I would love to visit the Acropolis, Syntagma Square, the old districts of Plaka, the small souvenir shops in Monastiraki, the temples of Thissio and the vibrant districts of Nea Smyrni and Zografou in my future visit to Athens.

Rhodes
You can imagine travelling back to the medieval times because Rhodes is known to be the oldest and better preserved inhabited medieval town in Europe. For sure, the best way of seeing and exploring this city is through walking around. I definitely won’t miss seeing Rhodes’ Old Town. It is considered to be one of the best preserved and most extensive medieval towns in Europe and also belongs to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site. Other sights to see include the Rhodes Archaeological Museum, the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes, the Venetian Town hall, and the Archbishops Palace.

Crete
It is the largest island in Greece and also the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. Crete belongs to one of the most important cultural heritages of Greece. It is located in the south of the Aegean Sea and to the north of Egypt and Libya. Crete is now considered to be one of the most popular destinations in Greece. I would love to visit Heraklion, the largest city with the archaeological site named Knossos. Going to walk in the mountains or along the beaches of Balos Lagoon and Elafonissi can be a wonderful experience in Crete. For accommodation, my friend mentioned that there are numerous nice villas in Crete which are quite cheap and affordable.

There are still other beautiful places to see in Greece. To mention a few: Corfu, Santorini, Thessaloniki, Delphi, Mykonos and Olympia. I believed visiting Greece can be a memorable and interesting experience considering its historical, cultural and architectural diversity.
