Winter in Amberg

Autumn is here and winter is coming so soon! I remember a visit in Amberg during winter season. I was invited by a good friend to go with her in this city. That time, she had an appointment to an eye doctor or ophthalmologist. I did not hesitated to go with her and in fact we had fun during our visit there.

I already visited Amberg a lot of times. My first visit was sometime in 2003. I had a friend who live nearby this city and when they invited us to come to their house that time, we decided to go there. Their house is around 15 minutes from Amberg’s  city center and we also did some sightseeing there. It was my first visit and I found the city quite interesting.

Amberg is a historic city, being first mentioned  in in 1034. At that time it was under the name Ammenberg. It became an important trading centre in the Middle Ages, exporting mainly iron ore and iron products. It is located in Upper Palatinate in the state of Bavaria, Germany.

Sights to see include the Market Square, the medieval walls and gates (one can be seen in the image here), the baroque Franciscan monastery on the Hill of Our Lady Help of Christians (I went there during my first visit), the town museum, the New Palace and more.
