Fasching in Breitenbrunn, Bavaria

I found old photos in my albums taken during the faschingszug (carnival parade) in Breitenbrunn in Bavaria. It was almost four years ago and I can still remember the fun I had while watching the carnival celebration there.

Fasching also called as Karneval, Fashnacht, Fastnet and many other terms being called by Germans, is known as carnival in English. It is already a part of German customs and traditions dating back in the 19th century.

If you are visiting Germany during this season, be sure to watch one. Small towns and villages are sometimes organizing carnival parades and Faschingsball (carnival ball). I already witnessed a few ones in the region of Bavaria. One of it was in Breitenbrunn last 2008.

I call this group the "black people".

these guys looks cool also! I was there!

I am not so sure if they will be having a carnival parade this year????

Tillyfest in Breitenbrunn, Bavaria

Another successful celebration of the Tillyfest in Breitenbrunn , a municipality in the district of Neumarkt, Bavaria in Germany is celebrated until today. The festival is still going on until now. Tomorrow it is over. We witnessed this afterrnoon the "Historische Festzug" or the historical parade. Tillyfest is celebrated every year. This year's celebration takes place on September 12 to 13. That was another interesting festival.

It is a celebration that commemorates the history of Breitenbrunn back around 385 years ago during the reign of the Count or Earl of Tilly, the Monarch of Breitenegg who lived and also ruled Breitenbrunn during those times. The name of this Count is Johann Tserclaes of Tilly.

Since I am not really an expert about this whole story, I decided to consult the experts online. Here is a little information about it. Don't forget to visit my other sites for more pictures.

Johann Tserclaes, Count of Tilly (Dutch: Johan 't Serclaes) (February 1559 - 30 April 1632), known as the Monk in Armor, was a Field Marshal who commanded the Imperial and Holy Roman Empire's forces in the Thirty Years' War. He had a string of important victories against the Bohemians, Germans and later the Danish, but was then defeated by forces led by the King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden. Along with Duke Albrecht von Wallenstein of Friedland and Mecklenburg, he was one of two chief commanders of the Holy Roman Empire’s forces. read more

After asking permission to these nice people who participated during the festival, I posted this photo here. It is a festival worth visiting and it is only around 25 minutes drive from us.

the beautiful horse carriage which is one of the highlights of the parade.

another group of participants who featured the costumes during those times.

After the parade, a play was also presented from a group coming from Prague, Czech Republic. That was a nice one.

Fasching or carnival in Germany

This photo was taken in Breitrenbrunn's fasching last year. I love their colorful and attractive customs here. I really enjoyed watching the parade. watch out for more photos in a couple of days..feel free to also visit my other sites!!

here is a little info about fasching or Carnival..courtesy of Wikipedia

Carnival is a festive season which occurs immediately before Lent; the main events are usually during January and February. Carnival typically involves a public celebration or parade combining some elements of a circus and public street party. People often dress up or masquerade during the celebrations.

Carnival is mostly associated with Roman Catholic and, to a lesser extent, Eastern Orthodox Christians; Protestant areas usually do not have carnival celebrations or have modified traditions, like the Danish Carnival. The world's longest carnival celebration is held in Brazil but many regions worldwide have large, popular celebrations, such as Carnaval of Venice, or the world famous New Orleans Mardi Gras, of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Mardi Gras in Mobile, of Torres Vedras or the Trinidad and Tobago Carnival.

Tillyfest in Breitenbrunn Oberpfalz, Germany

all photos taken by Euroangel
the children who are also participants of the parade....say cheese!! see those fresh vegetables at the back!! it is nicely presented!!

We went this afternoon in Breitenbrunn to witness the yearly celebration of Tillyfest. Tillyfest is usually celebrated every month of September . Me and my husband enjoyed the parade and the feast as a whole. I find the customs of the participants during the parade very attractive and colorful. As you can see in the photos I made here, it just really amazed me. I thought I can only see their customs in the movies but today, I see them personally.

They also have a show how the people live during the ancient times. The whole setting of the feast really manifest the lives on how people live during those times. I really enjoyed the show and the parade.

As usual a feast or celebration in Germany will not be merrier without beer and food. You can also find a lot of kiosks that sell different kinds of foods. Hope you enjoy watching the photos here. Visit my other sites for more photos!!

having a pose with the participants of the parade..they might be thinking I am a tourist in Germany..I'm a German too..wink!!

Die Geschichte des Marktes Breitenbrunn
courtesy of http://www.tillyfest.de/
