Bundestagswahl or Federal Election in Germany on September 27, 2009

Three more nights and the 17th German Federal Election is here. On September 27, 2009, the voters are going to elect the members of the Bundestag or the so-called Federal Parliament of Germany. On that day the election will start on 8:00 am until 6:00 pm.

Last month, we received the so-called Amtliche Wahlbenachrichtigung, the Official Entitlement to vote. This will be my first time to exercise the so-called Freedom of Suffrage in Bundestag level. I am quite skeptic about this. The past days me and HB had been discussing whether to go voting or not. As usual, you always hear candidates making promises. There are a lot of things we heard about different parties making promises like giving more employment to people, lowering of taxes, health politics betterment, more income to people, etcetera. I always hear about these common promises from politicians. I don't know how many promises really came true. That is the business of politics. Just this week, I guess it was CDU/CSU parties , if I am not mistaken, are telling people of lowering Merhwertsteuer, Value Added tax (VAT) or the so-called Goods and Services Tax. As far as I can remember, Germany's Merhwertsteuer was only 16%. During the time of Angela Merkel it was increased to 19% until now.

Being a citizen of this country now and since I have the right to vote, I guess I will go this coming election on Sunday. It is for free and I just hope and pray that Germany will be given leaders who will truly help the common people just like me. Peace! God bless Germany and the whole world!
